Education

Nonprofit organizations are often eager for staff training—but only if it’s practical and linked directly to their specific problems. There’s simply no time to indulge in typical classroom learning. nphd.org

The NonProfit HelpDesk develops holistic educational programs specifically designed to meet the needs of non-profit organizations with a special focus on smaller organizations. We combine education with mentoring to help staff put what they’ve learned to work immediately. We limit the amount of out-of-office time. We build relationships among students for ongoing sharing and support.

High Demand Certificate Courses, Free of Charge, For Nonprofits
Each year, NPHD offers sequences of courses taught by practicing experts in each field. Management, staff and board members of DYCD-funded nonprofit organizations can attend these courses at no charge; there is a minimal charge for other nonprofit organizations.

You can register for one course in a sequence, or for the entire sequence. Most courses are for a full-day, with some half-day sessions. Course sequences usually run from two to six weeks. Topics have included:

Tracking Your Money
Technology Development
Optimizing Fundraising Efforts
Board Development
Human Resource Management
Marketing

College Credit-Bearing Certificate Program in Nonprofit Management
The NPHD, with support from the Brooklyn Community Foundation, has developed a college credit-bearing certificate program in nonprofit financial management , which is now being offered at Brooklyn College. The program is the first of its kind in New York City.

Staff Training and Education Tailored to Your Needs
We can tailor a small group workshop to meet a particular need of your organization. We also offer half-day workshops on fundamental topics in financial management, technology and leadership development. Popular subjects include training in Excel, QuickBooks, Access and Web 2.0, as well as one of the topics most-requested by nonprofit organizations—fundraising! Contact us to learn more.

NPHD can also train selected staff members so that they can train others throughout your organization or in your target populations. Learn more about our Train the Trainer program.

We are able to offer a capacity-building fellowship program, called Fresh Growth, for funded organizations.
